Essential Functions:

POSITION SUMMARY

Postdoctoral position – Modeling hematopoietic and liver disease with engineered human pluripotent stem cells

A Postdoctoral associate position is available in the Department of Medicine, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO, United States. The Batista Lab is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to study the role of RNA stability and decay on telomere dysfunction-induced bone marrow failure and liver fibrosis, using human pluripotent stem cells and targeted differentiation approaches as a model (Fok W et al Stem Cell Reports 2017, Batista LF and Artandi SE, Current Opinion in Genetics and Development, 2013, Batista LF

et al

Nature 2011). This project will likely involve Chip-Seq, microarrays, RNA-Seq, CRISPR genome editing, and human stem cell differentiation assays.

The successful candidate should have a good publication record, and strong background in molecular biology and cell biology. Preference will be given to individuals with hands on experience on techniques associated with stem cell culture and genome engineering. The successful candidate must be highly self-motivated with a recent Ph.D. degree.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists with grant preparation and reporting.

Prepares and submits papers on research.

Assists in the design of research experiments.

Evaluates research findings and assists in the reporting of the results.

Conscientious discharge of their research responsibilities.

Maintain conformity with ethical standards in research.

Maintain compliance with good laboratory practice including the maintenance of adequate research records

Engage in open and timely discussion with their mentor regarding possession or distribution of material, reagents, or records belonging to their laboratory and any proposed disclosure of findings or techniques privately or in publications.

Collegial conduct towards co-trainees, staff members and members of the research group.

Adherence to all applicable University policies, procedures and regulations.  All data, research records and materials and other intellectual property generated in University laboratories remain the property of the University.

Salary Range:

The hiring range for this position is commensurate with experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to implement laboratory procedures, conduct research and records findings.

PhD or MD and demonstrated relevant research experience and publication record.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

A strong background in molecular and cellular biology is preferred.

Preference will be given to those with no previous postdoctoral experience.
