At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision – transforming patients’ lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease – and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry – each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.
The Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center (TME TRC) is focused on developing therapeutic targets at the intersection of tumor, stromal and immune biology within the TME with the goal of enhancing responsiveness to checkpoint blockade and targeted therapies. Comprising of scientists across multiple disciplines we are responsible for the biology and translational science necessary to support drug development from target identification through to first in human studies.
The Research Investigator will join the Cancer Biology research team within the Tumor Microenvironment Thematic Research Center (TME TRC) at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) in Redwood City, CA. This team is composed of cancer biologists/geneticists who work closely with immunologists/immuno-oncologists and stromal biologists to develop novel therapeutics that modulate the TME. Our mission is to provide transformative medicines that benefit the lives of patients.
The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, interactive, and creative individual who possesses substantial experience in studying tumor biology and genetics, especially with respect to how these features impact immune responses within the TME. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the team’s portfolio by developing new project hypotheses (gleaned from literature reports, evaluation of public and proprietary tumor profiling datasets, relevant preclinical mechanistic and functional screens, etc.), validating hypotheses in preclinical models, and developing assays to support early preclinical drug development.
The successful candidate will manage a team of laboratory personnel, serving as a “lead in the lab” by providing expert scientific and technical mentorship. The successful candidate will also be expected to act as an expert resource and also to maintain expertise in his/her field and in related scientific disciplines.

A Ph.D. degree with 0-3 years postdoctoral/academic/industrial experience in cancer biology/genetics or a closely related field is required.
Excellent in vitro biology, experimental design, and technical execution skills are required. This should be reflected in the candidate’s peer-reviewed publication track record.
Experience in the design, validation and execution of genetic/phenotypic screens is highly desired.
An ability to effectively interact with core bioinformatics colleagues and to independently navigate relevant publically available tools, such as cBioPortal and DepMap, is required.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and influence effectively with people, internally and externally, is required.
