Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The Critical Materials Institute at the Ames Laboratory, a Department of Energy National Laboratory affiliated with Iowa State University, is searching for a qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in theory, computation, and modeling of magnetic materials. Strong knowledge on magnetic anisotropy along with mechanical, and interfacial properties of permanent magnetic materials, and how these properties are affected by crystal environment, site substitution and interstitial inclusions, is preferred. The candidate will work with advanced density functional theory (DFT) methods, therefore experience with DFT is a must requirement.
The successful candidate for this position will be collaborating with interdisciplinary group of theorists and experimentalists from condensed matter, materials, and chemical sciences. Therefore, the successful candidate must be able to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences.
Required Education and Experience
• Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or closely related field must be completed prior to start date
• Expertise in density functional theory based electronic structure calculations with extensive experience with full-potential approaches.
Preferred Education and Experience
• Evidence of ability to work individually and as part of a team.
• A highly self-motivated and independent researcher.
• A strong track record of first author publications in peer reviewed journals.
