Under the immediate supervision of the Assistant Vice Provost and Director of the Undergraduate Research Center-Sciences and the Faculty Director of PEERS, the Academic Administrator (Assistant Director) will coordinate and participate in the activities of the Program for Excellence in Education and Research in the Sciences (PEERS) and the Santa Monica College (SMC) / UCLA Summer Scholars Research Program as part of the collaborative SMC/UCLA Science and Research Initiative (SRI). This position oversees services that support the retention of underrepresented students in science majors and coordinates research experiences with undergraduates. This position is also responsible for research and assessment of these programs and dissemination of best practices and will develop and teach courses to undergraduates. A doctoral degree in the sciences is required, post-doctoral research experience and university teaching experience are essential. Individuals with a history of and commitment to mentoring students from underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply.
The URC-Sciences at UCLA works collaboratively to serve UCLA’s undergraduate science population. Through various programs the URC-Sciences recruits, develops, trains and celebrates students involved in research. Our mission is to support and increase the retention of science majors in all disciplines, with some programs focused on students who face economic, familial, educational, social or other challenges.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Hiring salary range is $58,548 to $61,320/year.
Position remains open until filled. This is a full-time (100% time) position, with a projected start date in June/July 2018.
