Hi, we’re Second Genome.
We are a fast-paced and innovative venture-backed biotechnology company seeking tomorrow’s breakthrough therapeutics at the interface of complex microbial communities and their host environments. We are leaders in microbial ecology, metagenomics, and computer science. We love fresh approaches, we value process validation, and we welcome peer review.
In addition to our ground-breaking technology, we believe in embodying an authentically joyful workplace. Our Core Values:
We are Innovators
We are Driven to Action
We are Great Colleagues
We Work Smart
We Respect the Data
And we’re looking for an Immuno-Oncology Scientist to join our team.
We’re on the search for an IO Scientist with a passion for tackling new challenges. We’d love to work with someone who is personally driven but comfortable not having all the answers; resourceful when working toward goals; accepting of the changing demands of the industry environment, and a natural multi-tasker. Our candidate has a PhD degree (or equivalent) with 1-3 years of relevant postdoctoral experience in immunology, oncology, cancer biology and/or related disciplines. We deeply value team players who understand the importance of communication and the balance between compromise and assertion.
Responsibilities and Duties
Assume role as a research expert to drive drug discovery and novel translational research focused on leveraging the microbiome’s influence on tumor immunology
Design, prioritize, and execute appropriate functional assays
Develop and implement novel experimental protocols
Communicate findings and interpretation of results both internally and externally
As part of a research team, define project objectives and prioritize experiments accordingly
Qualifications and Skills
Deep knowledge and expertise in immunology or oncology, with proven contributions to research in the field of immune-cell metabolism and/or immune effector functions in the tumor microenvironment
Strong background and hands-on experience in the design and interpretation of in vitro and in vivo experimental models that include, but are not limited to
rodent and human primary cell-based assays;
explant culture systems;
3D organoid systems and/or
pre-clinical animal tumor models
Experience with routine laboratory analysis methods, including PCR, ELISA, Western blotting, FACS, RNA-seq, etc.
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to thrive in a cross-functional, collaborative research environment
Ability to support multiple projects and meet ambitious goals and timelines
Scientific know-how of, or demonstrated interest in, stromal-immune cell interactions in the tumor microenvironment
Experience with human tissue-based models
Experience with (in vitro and in vivo) pharmacology, target assessment and translational biomarkers
Analysis and interpretation of microbe-host interactions, particularly microbial regulators of the host immune response
