The Spine Team is involved in conducting high impact studies dedicated to improving outcomes, functional capacity, and quality of life in patients undergoing spine surgery with a special focus in combating the opioid epidemic and healthcare cost-containment.Position Responsibilities:Conduct research trials, ongoing prospective and retrospective studies.Hypothesis generation, design and execution of spine research studies and clinical randomized clinical trials focusing on combating opioid epidemic, including optimal weaning strategies tailored upon individual risk-assessments; health care disparity; outcomes predictions; and cost-containment.Coordinate IRB submissions and queries for research approvals.Create abstracts write up and submissions to national meetings for presentations, manuscript preparation, data analysis, predictive analytics, etc.Education Requirement:Must have a PhD in a bioscience discipline, MD, or MBBS.Required Qualifications:4 years of dedicated clinical research experience in orthopedics or neurosurgery relating to the spine.Extensive and sustained publication record in peer-reviewed national and international orthopedic, orthopedic spine, neurosurgical, or neurosurgical spine journals that have been indexed in PubMed.Experience presenting research at national and regional meetings.Experience working with large administrative databases/datasets.Experience with statistical methods used for survivorship analysis, univariate and multivariate analysis, logistic regression, power analysis, multi imputation, and/or propensity score matching.Strong understanding of the International Classification of Diseases-Clinical Modification codes (ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM diagnosis and procedure codes) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codings.Experience conducting and submitting studies for Institutional Review Board (IRB) review and approval.Excellent academic written and verbal communication skills.Desirable Qualifications:Highly Desirable Qualification:Working knowledge of orthopedic spine or neurosurgical spine procedures.Working knowledge of surgical implants and techniques for orthopedic spine or neurosurgical procedures.Ability to multi-task and organize priorities while maintaining attention to detail.Online Application Required DocumentsCurriculum VitaLetters of InterestTo start the Online Application process for this position, click the Apply for This Position button located below the Contact Information.Contact InformationContact:Sarah M Burnett - sarah-burnett@uiowa.eduCmed-Orthopaedics and RehabPomerantz Family Pavilion720 Melrose Avenue01167-A PFPIowa City, IA 52242Phone: 319-356-7121The University of Iowa is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
