Salem Health is currently seeking a talented Speech Language Pathologist Clinical Fellow to join our Acute care team!

Our hospital is licensed for 454 acute care beds, and is guided by a 15-member volunteer Board of Trustees. The hospital is the city of Salem's largest private employer, with approximately 3,500 full and part-time employees and is a Level II Trauma Center.
Conducts evaluations and utilizes findings to plan and implement communication and swallowing treatments to restore, reinforce and/or enhance a person’s ability to function independently. Applies the principles of professional practice in Speech-Language Pathology in evaluating and treating communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders in all of the acute medical and surgical units. Develops home programs and provides care giver/family training to enhance ongoing intervention. Consults with physicians and other members of the rehabilitation/habilitation team to deliver a coordinated intervention program that meets the holistic needs of the patient. Demonstrates proficiency in utilization of specialized diagnostic intervention strategies for swallowing disorders.
Minimum Qualifications Include:
• Master’s degree in speech-language pathology/communication sciences and disorders required.
Eligible for a temporary license in Oregon under supervision of an ASHA certified Speech Language Pathologists.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Include:
Complete specialty coursework and hands-on training in working with high-risk (MBSImp).
Core Job Functions Include:
• Treatment Plan: The treatment plan should reflect the objective findings of the evaluation. Patient/family participation included in establishing measurable and functionally based goals. Using evidence based standards, treatment is given in a skillful, effective and timely fashion. Demonstrate progression towards functional goals and adjust plan of care when appropriate.
• Evaluation: Using evidence based standards and measures the evaluation reflects an organized assessment and interpretation based on the patient’s diagnosis, presenting signs and history.
• Documentation: Documentation is completed within the time frame specified within each program area, reflects treatments rendered, patient response to therapy interventions, progress towards goals, and supports each billing entry.
• Discharge Planning: Collaborate with health care team in discharge planning. Anticipates patient and family needs and provides appropriate training and education.
Scheduling: All staff are required to be proactive in fully utilizing their capacity to meet department specific expectations. Flexibility and cooperative effort is required to meet patient and department scheduling needs.
Working Conditions Include:
Frequent sitting, push/pull (force) 1-10 pounds, bend/crouch, & twist.
Constant moving about work area, lift & carry 1-10 pounds, walk-level surface, use of arms/wrist, & manual dexterity (grasping/squeezing).
Includes exposure to weather, heat, cold, chemicals, etc, unusual shifts, etc.
