Profile

Description:

We are looking for one full-time, or two part-time, embedded Researcher(s)-in-Residence to support the development and evaluation of two future-orientated, person-centred Integrated Care Pathways (ICPs) at Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust (TSDFT). Working alongside clinicians, staff, patients and carers, you will support the co-production of the frailty/older people and perioperative care/orthopaedics ICPs. Using applied research methods to review evidence and support the evaluation of service innovations, you will also seek to understand the extent to which the ICPs are delivered and what factors have facilitated or hindered their implementation. The ICP re-design is being undertaken as part of the Building a Brighter Future (BBF) programme. This sits within TSDFT’s New Hospital Programme, funded by the Government to re-design and re-build hospital estate and (digital) infrastructure fit for the future. You will need to be a researcher with a track record of working in the NHS and with other system partners such as local government, the voluntary sector, community organisations and the public. You will need to be independent, resilient and innovative, and have excellent influencing skills as well as experience of delivering high-quality research in close collaboration with care staff and managers. You will be a critical companion, diplomatically challenging staff assumptions and ideas and answering their questions with a sensitive approach. Being ‘embedded’ within the service setting, increases the potential for well-designed research, applied directly to the context in which solutions will be adopted, to facilitate successful implementation and improve care for service users. This model allows researchers and health and social care staff to understand and value each other’s roles, knowledge and approaches and to develop their skills in complementary ways. This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly applied health services researcher to make a practical contribution to improving care. Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement. For an informal discussion about the post, please contact by email or mobile either: Dr Julian Elston: julian.elston@plymouth.ac.uk – 07946 426060 Professor Sheena Asthana: sheena.asthana@plymouth.ac.uk Dr Tomasina Oh: tomasina.oh@plymouth.ac.uk – 07458 052113 This role will require a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service Check. This is a fixed-term position available from 1st October 2022 until 30th June 2024 due to funding. Interviews are expected to take place on Friday 16th September 2022. If you are shortlisted, details of the interview times and process will be sent to you. It is likely that you will be required to give a 10-minute presentation as part of your interview.
