Profile

Description:
This is an exciting chance to be part of a progressive and cutting-edge University in a beautiful location, where you can really make a difference. We are looking for a person with imagination and drive to grow new opportunities for research and engagement in sustainable geoscience. As a visible champion of sustainable geoscience and associated agendas (e.g. mineral resources, natural capital, renewable energy, environmental and social impact, nature based solutions) your role will be to undertake project initiation and development activities, build productive relationships with public and business stakeholders, lead funding applications in collaboration with University researchers and undertake applied research (including literature and database). Based in the Sustainable Earth Institute at the University of Plymouth, and engaging actively with the Marine Institute where relevant, you will join a dynamic team of researchers and project officers as well as engage proactively with the wider academic community across the University. The Sustainable Earth Institute (SEI) is one to three Strategic Research institutes at the University of Plymouth. Our strategic institutes are aligned with our diverse research strengths and reflect our interdisciplinary approach. They support and encourage collaborative activities, provide a first-class research environment for staff and students, and help to showcase the impact of our groundbreaking work to key audiences on a global stage. The SEI brings together researchers from natural and social sciences, engineering, arts, humanities, health and business, to take an interdisciplinary, systems-thinking approach to help tackle sustainability challenges. Our research responds to the call of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, contributing to both global efforts, and the needs identified locally where our capabilities can make a difference. We engage with all sectors – private, public and third – to work together on innovative solutions for a more sustainable Earth. The University of Plymouth has a strong interdisciplinary research ethos which is supported by our three strategic Research Institutes: the Marine Institute, the Sustainable Earth Institute, and the Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research. As a member of our academic community, you’ll be expected to contribute to our recognised research strengths. Working holistically across the University, you will be challenged to innovate, collaborate and deliver impactful research contributions as part of a systems thinking approach to addressing today’s global challenges. Please see the Job Description for the skills and attributes that we are looking for. Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement. For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact Dr Ian Selby (****) or Professor Will Blake (****) Interviews are expected to take place on Monday 11th July 2022 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not.
