Overview

The Research Associate III performs experiments, conducts research, writes scientific manuscripts, develops research programs, and daily operations in the laboratory for various research grants.

Responsibilities

* Performs experiments relating to the molecular genetics of virulence gene regulation in the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus.

* Responsible for growth of bacteria, conduct research pertaining to virulence gene regulation by using molecular genetics and biochemistry methods including enzyme and protein assays, molecular genetic techniques, and DNA and plasmid preparation and transformation.

* Participates in animal studies to assess the role of virulence regulation in staphylococcal pathogenesis.

* Assists with writing scientific manuscripts by supplying information pertaining to experiments undertaken as described.

* Develops research programs that promote his/her independent research career.

* Organizes and oversees the daily operations of the laboratory including ordering supplies and small equipment, maintaining chemical inventories, entering computerized data, and performing routine chemical and radiation safety checks.

* Helps train graduate students, other postdoctoral researchers, and any temporary undergraduate students that enter the lab.

* May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

* Ph.D in Life Sciences with an emphasis in Microbiology or Biochemistry PLUS three (3) years of postdoctoral experience in microbiology or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

* Expertise in bacteriology, in bacterial genetics, and with molecular biology techniques
