The preclinical imaging group is offering a 3-4 year postdoctoral position to do neurobiology research within a company setting.

Job Description

One of the hallmarks of neurological diseases is the disruption of neuronal circuits through either neurodegeneration or changes in the neurons' electrophysiological properties. An emerging technique to image these circuits is optogenetic fMRI (ofMRI). The preclinical imaging group is embedded in the Research and Early Development biomarker organization of Biogen and offers in-house capabilities spanning MRI, PET, SPECT, CT, bioluminescence, and autoradiography.
We are looking for a highly-skilled and motivated candidate to build upon the group's current optogenetic and fMRI capabilities to help establish an ofMRI platform for the analysis of rodent animal models of neurological disease, including Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, and neuropathic pain.

The successful candidate should have previous experience with in vivo optogenetics and the use of genetic animal models. Experience in fMRI or other imaging modality is preferred, although not a prerequisite. The candidate should have a strong interest in method development and creative problem solving, and applying novel methods to study neuronal circuitry in disease models. The candidate will be exposed to the detailed cross functional aspects of drug discovery and development. For this position, the candidate must work closely with other imaging team members, as well as other program teams, and thus strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate are absolutely required and will be demonstrated by presenting at team meetings, internal forums and company-wide seminars. During the post-doctoral term, the candidate will be expected to submit research to both scientific meetings and journals.

Qualifications

Strong experience with rodent animal models and mouse genetics, including experience with optogenetics

Previous experience in imaging is preferred; however, the ability to think mathematically and a strong desire to learn fMRI are essential

Strong background in synaptic circuitry in the context of Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, and/or pain preferred

Team player and effective communicator

Strong publication record at conferences and/or peer reviewed journals

Education

Recent PhD in neuroscience or related discipline

Education

Recent PhD in neuroscience or related discipline

All individuals deserve the right to achieve their full potential.
