The candidate will contribute at the early research and lead optimization stages to multidisciplinary drug discovery teams charged with finding transformative therapies for rare diseases (such as alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, sickle cell disease, and adrenoleukodystrophy, among others). The candidate must be capable of designing and conducting independent research experiments to identify and validate new drug discovery projects, create innovative (yet practical) assays and screening concepts, and address biological questions that arise in later stage drug discovery. Creativity and good interpersonal skills are necessary characteristics for the role, as one will often be called upon to solve problems in a matrix team environment. Experience as a biology or project leader in a drug discovery team, or obvious potential to develop into such roles, are desired.

* PhD (or equivalent degree) in Molecular or Cellular Biology or a related discipline

* 10 plus years experience in industry. Experience leading a small group is a plus.

* Strong publication record in areas related to drug discovery

* Demonstrated contributions in target identification and validation

* Solid understanding of drug discovery

* An ability to navigate disciplines in biology beyond ones specialist training

* Proven ability to champion and advance innovative concepts

* Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

* Ability to manage complexity and ambiguity in a matrix work environment

* Ability to identify and drive collaborations with external institutions

* Experience in genomic technologies and data analysis is a plus

* A desire to be part of a highly innovative company aimed at transforming the lives of people with serious diseases, their families and society
