A Postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Professor Gregg Fields, **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Jupiter, FL, to elucidate roles of matrix metalloproteinases in cancer progression and metastasis.
Remodeling of the extracellular matrix (ECM) is crucial in development and homeostasis, but also has a significant role in disease progression. Mammalian ECM remodeling enzymes include members of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family. MMPs have long been implicated for roles in cancer initiation, tumor growth, and metastasis. MMPs are recognized for their ability to catalyze the hydrolysis of collagen, growth factors, cell surface receptors, and other membrane-bound molecules in physiological and pathological conditions. In addition, MMPs have been found in the cytosol, organelles, and intracellular compartments, and recently several MMPs have been found in the nucleus. However, the mechanisms and roles of MMPs inside the cell are still poorly understood.
We are seeking a highly motivated molecular biologist to join an interdisciplinary team of scientists. Dr. Fields’ laboratory is conducting highly interdisciplinary research focused on elucidating novel roles of MMPs in health and disease, with the goal of designing novel cancer progression diagnostics and anti-cancer drugs.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to the design of biological and biochemical assays targeting MMPs as potential anti-cancer agents with a major focus on bacterial and mammalian protein expression and purification, and visualization/quantification of cell-based protease activity.
Ph.D. in Molecular or Cell Biology from an accredited institution by time of appointment required. Must be a first author on at least 2-3 publications and/or have a strong publication record. Must be independent in the experimental design, solving challenging cloning, purification and cell-based assay problems, and efficient in biochemical assays.Extensive experience in protein design and construction, tissue culture, molecular cloning, bacterial and mammalian protein expression, and biochemical enzyme analysis required. Expertise in using FPLC, PCR, cloning/expression of proteins, and assay development required. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Background in extracellular matrix biochemistry, proteases of the extracellular matrix; cancer biology and tumor cell biology/signal transduction in a protease field preferred.
