Postdoctoral Researcher Position

Level 3 to 4 (Depending Upon Experience)

Postdoctoral Researcher position available immediately in the Grundfest Lab for Biophotonics and Minimally Invasive Surgical Tooling

for a period of 1-2 years depending upon performance

. The main projects focus on development of new medical devices, with direct translation into clinical practice. Initial work will be on ultrasound-based imaging for tumor boundary detection and diagnostic spectroscopy. This lab provides a unique opportunity to not only collaborate with practicing physicians but also with entrepreneurs and venture capitalists for future commercialization and start-up opportunities. Other projects will include laser-based therapies and optical diagnostic devices, as determined by the Principal Investigators.

Duties:

Manage projects, ranging from day-to-day activities to development of work plans and timelines

Coordinate and perform ex vivo and in vivo experimentation

Prototyping of new devices and benchtop testing of basic concepts

Writing research grants for NSF, NIH, DoD, and other sources of support

Teaching undergraduate and graduate students basic laboratory techniques

Supervising undergraduate and graduate students as necessary

Qualifications:

PhD in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred with a strong background in acoustics, image processing, and software development

Understanding of electrical/optical systems, design, and associated testing/measurement methods

Experience performing animal and tissue experimentation

Understanding of systems engineering, software/hardware interface

Experience with design and analysis software (MATLAB, SOLIDWorks, PCB CAD, Comsol, Circuit/System Simulation Software) and with performing simulations

Basic project management skills, creating timelines, budgets, milestones, deliverables

Good oral and written communication skills, especially the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical personnel, is essential for these positions

Prior experience with government and NGO grants is a major strength as is prior industry experience

Strong publication record

Highly motivated individual, with ability to self-manage and work within a collaborative team environment
