The University of New Mexico Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology invites nominations and applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor for Fall 2018. This is a probationary appointment leading to a tenure decision.
The University of New Mexico is the largest and most comprehensive of the state's institutions of higher education and is both a Carnegie Very High Research University and a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution. Located in Albuquerque, the largest and fastest growing metropolitan area in the state, the University of New Mexico features a growing campus that reflects the cultures and diversity of the Southwest and fosters an excellent work environment for its faculty and learning environment for its students. The Chemistry & Chemical Biology Department currently has 20 tenure-track faculty and 7 lecturers and visiting faculty supported by 16 staff members. We award ~25 undergraduate and ~10-15 graduate degrees each year to students from across New Mexico, the western US, and the world.
The research programs and facilities housed throughout the UNM Basic Sciences and Engineering Departments, Health Sciences Center, and specialized research centers offer tremendous opportunities for multi-disciplined collaborative research as do those at nearby Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories.
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences or related field by date of application
At least one year of post-doctoral research experience
Evidence of outstanding potential to build a nationally recognized and externally funded computational and/or experimental research program in the areas of Bioinformatics and/or Genomics as demonstrated by publications and grants
Evidence of potential synergistic interactions with existing research programs at UNM and UNMHSC
Proven ability to teach Bioinformatics and Biological Chemistry
A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
