Develop phytobiomes to benefit plant drought responses: foliar fungal endophytes in agricultural and biofuels grasses. Develop genomics-based predictive framework for fungal effects on plants. Scale predictions to more realistic communities. Test predictions on agricultural plants in greenhouse setting.
Sequence and assemble genomes of 20 fungi and run comparative genomics analyses. Greenhouse experiments, including plant measurements, gene expression and metabolomic extractions and analyses for Panicum hallii plants grown individually with 20 fungi and in diverse mixtures. Field experiments with Panicum virgatum, Sorghum bicolor, and Zea mays grown under irrigation treatments, including fungal community, gene expression, and metabolomics extractions and analyses. General lab and field preparation, clean up, supplies ordering, and organization of undergraduate student assistants.
Class C Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
Other related functions as assigned.
PhD in Biology or related field within the last three years. Experience in fungal genomics, plant and fungal gene expression, culturing, and associated bioinformatics.
Research experience with fungal and plant metabolomics. Familiarity with C4 grasses in field and greenhouse experiments. Prior experience with field methods and high throughput phenotyping.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS
), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP
) instead of TRS
, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
