Profile

Dr. Ahmed H. Badranu2019s laboratory at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard seeks to hire 2-3 highly motivated postdoctoral scholars. The Badran Lab is interested in applying synthetic biology principles to address shortcomings in the current understanding of conserved cellular processes. Specifically, we aspire to improve this understanding through a number of tools aimed at accelerating the evolution of macromolecular biosynthetic machinery and whole organisms, with a focus on developing orthogonal transcription/translation networks and defining the minimal biological requirements for functions within the central dogma. The postdoctoral scholar(s) would lead efforts towards the creation of robust circuits and reporters for cellular transcription and translation, as well as implement their designs in directed evolution experiments to generate novel biomolecules. This position will also include optimizing existing and developing improved methods for directed evolution, and rigorous troubleshooting of synthetic designs. Responsibilities: Conduct independent experiments aimed at meeting platform and project goals Facilitate and participate in regular platform and project update meetings Work with other lab members to develop new methods and technologies Explore creative application of the developed technologies Requirements: A minimum of a Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related field In-depth understanding of nucleic acid and protein biochemistry Prior hands-on experience with nucleic acid and protein purification, experimental synthetic and systems biology, molecular biology, bacterial genetics, and assay development are preferred, but any exceptionally creative and driven scientist interested will be thoroughly considered Strong oral and written communication, data documentation, and presentation skills Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills Desired Education and Experience: Experience with data analysis, visualization, and bioinformatics tools Successful record of scientific publications in peer reviewed journals
