Job Duties Job Duties Percent of total time 70 Duties Conduct experimental research in the areas of low-temperature plasma processes and coating systems for polymeric materials and bio-based composites. Responsibilities include developing and exploring solutions for meeting performance objectives for the industrially focused applications. Surface modification and multi-layer coating systems are employed using plasma and chemical methods to achieve targeted properties, such as scratch and abrasion resistance and long-term UV blocking. For composites, various bio-based matter is explored, in which surface modification and coating is conducted to improve compatibility with and adhesion to the matrix material. Duties include: -Planning and performing experimental studies -Conducting literature reviews and developing new ideas and approaches -Analyzing data and preparing updates for sponsors Percent of total time 10 Duties Training and supervision of research students. Percent of total time 10 Duties Responsible for the maintenance of research equipment in the Chemical Engineering department as assigned, in addition to the usage logs for such equipment. Percent of total time 10 Duties Teaching laboratory courses in the Chemical Engineering department equivalent to two contact hours in three academic terms per year.
