GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in laboratory of Dr. Vanessa Wheeler in the Center for Genomic Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital to study neurodegenerative disorders caused by unstable repeats, with a focus on mechanisms underlying the instability of the causative mutations and relationships of somatic repeat length to phenotypic expression and disease modification The laboratory employs a variety of complementary approaches that include genetic modifier studies in patients, mouse models and iPSCs, CRISPR-based technologies, molecular biology, biochemistry, microscopy, transcriptional profiling and single cell analyses. The position at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, together with close access to the Broad Institute and resources in the Boston area offer unparalleled opportunity for collaboration for a stimulating and highly collaborative training environment at the forefront of human genetic disease research.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Studies include:

Genome-engineering using CRISPR

Mammalian cell cell culture, including human iPSC, and neuronal differentiation methods

Genetic experiments in mouse models

Single cell RNA and genomic DNA sequencing in mammalian cell and mouse models

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

The ability to independently conduct hypothesis-driven research

A strong record of productivity

Highly motivated

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Adaptability to new innovations and shifting priorities

Ability to work as part of a collaborative team

Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

Experience with iPSCs/mice/single cell analyses is strongly preferred

Experience in Bioinformatic analyses is strongly preferred

EDUCATION:

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in genetics, neurobiology, molecular/cellular biology or related discipline.
