(Center for Bright Beams)
The Cornell Laboratory for Accelerator-based Sciences and Education (CLASSE) has an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on outstanding questions in nonlinear beam dynamics pertaining to maximizing dynamic aperture in low-emittance storage rings of the future. A Ph.D. or an equivalent in physics, mathematics, computer science, or engineering is required.
Cornell's Center for Bright Beams is an NSF Science and Technology Center, which represents an interdisciplinary multi-institutional cutting-edge effort to dramatically improve the quality of accelerator beams, offering a variety of exciting research opportunities on all key aspects of beam dynamics, beam production, and acceleration. The successful candidate will play a key role in working with graduate students, accelerator experts, and multidisciplinary scientists in spearheading key challenges facing accelerator science with a specific focus on obtaining brighter beams from storage rings and understanding complex dynamics associated with it.
Applicants should have a solid grasp of various aspects of Hamiltonian nonlinear systems, Lie algebraic representation of periodic maps, extensive experience in computational physics such as modeling of beam dynamics and be well versed in computer optimizations. Firm foundation in accelerator physics is an additional plus.
Located on campus of a premier Ivy League Research University, CLASSE has a long history of excellence in various aspects of accelerator-related sciences and technology. This research will be conducted in a lively interdisciplinary environment involving a number of top Research Universities and National Laboratories, who together constitute the Center for Bright Beams.
The initial Postdoctoral Associate appointment will be for 1 year, with the expectation for renewal for an additional 2 years.
Applications should be submitted at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/11176
and should include a CV, a list of publications, a statement of research interests, and three letters of recommendation. Complete applications will be considered immediately. For information about the position, contact Prof. Ivan Bazarov at firstname.lastname@example.org
