Postdoctoral Research, Chemical Engineering
Postdoctoral Opportunity: Pitch Precursor Development The research will involve utilizing industrial waste streams to generate high value pitch precursors through formulation and testing. We have recently shown that the properties of pitch fibers are strongly dependent on the processing step. The project aims to develop rheology-process-structure-property relationships for formulations of pitch precursors to optimize waste stream composition.
Candidates must have a PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field. Applicants should have experience in rheology, polymer processing, fluid mechanics, and/or material characterization. Expertise in extensional rheology would be greatly advantageous.
Utilize filament stretching rheometers and novel spinning and fiber line instrumentation to develop fundamental rheology-spinning relationships. Collaborate with PhD student, and other group members. Travel to industrial sponsor and other collaborative partners will be required.
