Founded in 1819, the University of Cincinnati embarks upon its third century - building on the past and defining the future by leading urban, public universities into a new era of innovation and impact through its strategic direction, Next Lives Here. Underscoring the power of creativity, ingenuity, invention and inclusion, what's Next will accelerate our unrivaled momentum, evidenced by eight straight years of record enrollment and rankings that include placement among America's top 100 public universities by U.S. News & World Report. Home to a diverse student body of nearly 47,000 and more than 4,200 distinguished faculty, the university combines its Research 1 (Very High Research Activity) Carnegie Classification with a physical setting that The New York Times recently acclaimed as the most ambitious campus design program in the country.

JOB OVERVIEW

The Department of Cancer Biology in the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine provides a dynamic, interactive, and supportive environment. We are a well-established laboratory with extensive experiences and contributions in cancer research as well as strong training record for postdocs over 3 decades at Cornell University, University of Michigan, and University of Cincinnati. Please see https://med.uc.edu/depart/cancer-biology/about/chair about Dr. Guan and visit https://med.uc.edu/depart/cancer-biology/labs/guan-laboratory for more information on our laboratory. We are interested in recruiting self-motivated, recent Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. graduates with the drive to succeed and the desire to be competitive at the highest level. Candidates with a strong background in cell and molecular biology, cancer research, neuroscience, vascular biology and/or immunology are encouraged to apply. Experience in autophagy, cell signaling, vesicle trafficking, single-cell transcriptional and genomic analysis, stem cells, and mouse models of cancer, neurodegenerative or other diseases are preferred.

For additional information concerning this position you may contact Jun-Lin Guan, Ph.D. Professor and Chair, Department of Cancer Biology, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Vontz Center for Molecular Studies Rm 3324, 3125 Eden Avenue Cincinnati, OH  45267-0521. E-mail: guanjl@uc.edu. Tel/Fax: (513) 558-0114/(513) 558-1190.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Postdoctoral positions are available to pursue basic and translational cancer research in Dr. Jun-Lin Guan's laboratory at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Research in Dr. Guan's laboratory aims to understand the fundamental principles of cell signaling in the regulation of basic cellular functions in normal cell and developmental processes and to determine how the disruption of normal signaling pathways lead to diseases such as cancer. Current studies include the analysis of autophagy and non-canonical functions of multiple autophagy genes in breast cancer and neural stem cells, and mTORC1 signaling in vascular and other tumors and its cross-talk with autophagy. We use a variety of genetically engineered mouse models combined with molecular, cellular and functional genomic approaches as well as CRISPR-based genetic screen, single cell transcriptomics, PROTACs, organoids and optogenetics to gain mechanistic insights of complex signaling networks in vivo.
