The research laboratory of Dr. Rimas Orentas in the Ben Towne Center for Childhood Cancer Research of the Seattle Children’s Research Institute is seeking 2 post-doctoral fellows interested in immune approaches to cancer therapy.
The final candidate will be based in the BTCCR and enjoy a highly interactive work environment, with significant shared resources at their disposal. The work we do is highly cross-disciplinary, intensely collaborative, and immensely impactful. Every advance we make in testing new concepts in cell therapy is designed to define the principles by which the immune system is able to detect and eliminate cancer.
We need a team member who will be motivated by the importance of this work to overcome highly challenging problems with innovative solutions, and who is versatile enough to handle working in, technologically speaking, a no-holds-barred environment.
Work will entail establishment and optimization of enhanced cellular analytics platforms in order to assess the quality and performance of new approaches to targeting tumor antigens and controlling the biological activity of effector lymphocyte populations using the emerging principles of synthetic biology and cell engineering as demonstrated through breakthrough advances in the production of chimeric antigen receptor systems beyond those currently used in clinical practice (CARs). According to the candidates strengths, projects will focus on: (a) advances cell biology and bioengineering of T cell populations, including in vitro and in vivo gene therapy approaches, or (b) bio-informatics intensive approaches to discovering tumor cell targets, and analyzing the behavior of T cells faced with the anti-immune microenvironment inherent in the tumor lesion. In addition to deep genetic analysis, flow cytometry, metabolic characterization, and immunological assays, at the cellular level, the ability to model immune-based or gene therapy-based investigations in animal model systems is a plus. In many cases the most effective and appropriate analyses for cell therapies are unknown and the candidate will work with the team to blaze new trails in the field. In addition, the ability to develop and perform in depth data processing methods is necessary for success in this position.
- PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, or a similar field.
- Experience using basic research techniques of specialty area
-Documented efficacy in basic lab management including maintenance and fingerprinting of cell lines, isolation of lymphocyte populations, and implementing institutional policies.
*Please include/attach a non-generic cover letter describing what makes your the ideal candidate for this role*
- Experience in protocol and manuscript development and in grant writing
