Postdoctoral Position - HIV and liver fibrosis

A postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated candidate to study mechanisms of HIV and liver fibrogenesis in the Chung Laboratory in the Liver Center and Gastrointestinal Division at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The candidate will lead projects to understand how HIV interacts with multiple cell types to promote hepatic fibrosis. S/he will evaluate the interaction of HIV with hepatic stellate cells, macrophages, and hepatocytes using tissue culture, animal models, and evaluation of human tissue samples from HIV-infected patients with multiple etiologies of liver disease. The lab will use novel coculture techniques to evaluate these multicellular interactions, as well as RNA sequencing of cell types from relevant human liver specimens.
S uccessful candidates will have earned a Ph.D. in genetics, molecular biology, cellular biology, or related fields and demonstrated the ability to complete research projects independently. A background in research related to fibrosis or experience with mouse models will strengthen the application. The candidate must also demonstrate proficient oral and written communication skills and the enthusiasm to work in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment.
The focus of this project is on liver disease, but the candidate will also interact with team of investigators who study fibrosis across multiple organ systems.
