The Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program aims to be a best-in-industry program for industrial postdoctoral researchers, designed to provide you with an academic focus in a commercial environment. With the resources, reach, and expertise of a large pharmaceutical company, postdoctoral researchers will be positioned to excel in an institution committed to breakthrough innovation in research and discovery.
As a postdoctoral fellow in CORE you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists and professionals from health economics, health policy, data science, epidemiology, and outcomes research, as well as have the opportunity to align with the wider Merck organization (e.g. clinical development, branding, and market access) to conceive, design, plan and implement observational research to understand disease burden and treatment patterns and generate value evidence. CORE is headed by Susan Shiff, PhD MBA, and the team members are primarily located in Merck’s NJ, PA, and MA offices. You will focus on the discovery and outcomes assessment of clinical pathway in the hospital settings.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Work with cross functional team to formulate loosely defined problems into research concepts
Design retrospective database studies, prospective naturalistic pharmacoeconomics studies, outcomes research and/or comparative effectiveness studies to test hypothesis and/or validate findings
Develop statistical models and methodologies in order to quantify, estimate, and predict health metrics of interest.
Effectively communicate findings and methodological approaches. Actively support research communication plans and lead in the development of presentations and scientific publications.
Education Minimum Requirement:
PhD with less than 3 years of Postdoctoral Experience or achieved a Ph.d by Spring/Summer of 2018
Required Experience and Skills:
Knowledge of statistical techniques
Proficiency in statistical analysis, quantitative analytics, predictive analytics, and multivariate testing
Understanding of observational and experimental study design
Strong programming skills in database (such as SQL) and statistical modeling (such as Python and R)
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Experience in publishing scientific results in peer reviewed scientific journals
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Familiarity with administrative healthcare data, including Medicare/Medicaid, claims data, electronic health records
Experience in machine learning including but not limited to supervised and unsupervised learning and deep neural nets
Experience in data visualization tools such as D3
