The Department of Communication is a national leader in the study of communication as a social science, ranked among the top five in a recent poll by the National Research Council. Our faculty and students are dedicated to understanding the role and enhancing the effectiveness of communication processes, systems, and infrastructure in society. We explore communication in its many forms and contexts as a fundamentally social phenomenon. Our faculty members are recognized for developing and applying novel theoretical perspectives to the most pressing social and policy issues of the day.
We are seeking a colleague to join a vibrant, interdisciplinary research community as a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Communication at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.. Working closely with Dr. Katherine McComas, the Postdoctoral Associate will be a member of the Risk Communication Research Group, where they will take an active role in assisting and leading risk communication projects, provide guidance and mentorship to graduate students and undergraduates, and help identify possible grant funding opportunities. In addition, the Postdoctoral Associate will be encouraged to develop their own research questions related to the risk communication projects, as well as take advantage of the multitude of internal and external mentoring opportunities Cornell affords to early career students. The position start date is immediate and subject to negotiation.
Required Qualifications:
PhD in communication or related field
Working knowledge of prominent risk, science, and health communication theories
Strong background in quantitative and qualitative research, including methods of analysis and statistics
Demonstrated ability to carry out independent research
Proven record of communicating research results via peer reviewed publications and presentations
Willingness to mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate research assistants
This is a full-time position and will be located in Ithaca, New York. This is a one-year appointment with possible extension depending on funding and performance.
