Be a part of the legacy: MRL Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program
The Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program aims to be a best-in-industry program for industrial postdoctoral researchers, designed to provide you with an academic focus in a commercial environment. With the resources, reach, and expertise of a large pharmaceutical company, postdoctoral researchers will be positioned to excel in an institution committed to breakthrough innovation in research and discovery.
As a postdoctoral fellow in the Neuroscience Discovery group based in Boston, MA, you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists to design, plan and implement experiments to explore mechanisms of LRRK2-dependent neurodegeneration in familial and idiopathic Parkinson’s disease. This work will enable our understanding as to whether LRRK2 kinase inhibitors may be of benefit in the treatment of idiopathic Parkinson’s disease in addition to carriers of the LRRK2 kinase enhancing G2019S and related mutations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Design, execute, perform data analysis and report in-vitro and in vivo study results.
Work independently to develop new assays, models, protocols and methods.
Communicating orally and in writing data clearly and concisely to the appropriate stakeholders.
Preparation of manuscripts, publication and presentation of results at scientific meetings.
Collaborate with Merck and external scientist conducting studies to explore the role of LRRK2 in Parkinson’s disease.
Contribute to a safe and compliant laboratory work environment.
Education Minimum Requirement:
PhD with less than 3 years of Postdoctoral Experience or achieved a Ph.D by Spring/Summer of 2018
Required Experience and Skills:
Strong background in cellular, molecular, and systems biology.
Experience with fundamental as well as cutting-edge biochemical and molecular biology techniques (including gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, ELISA, DNA cloning, CRISPR genome editing, gene knockdown, TaqMan, microarray).
Experience with human iPSC culture models, primary neuron and/or glia cell culture, and standard laboratory cell culture procedures, including techniques such as DNA transfection, viral delivery and immunocytochemistry.
Must be an independent and self-motivated scientist with a desire to learn about drug discovery and development.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Experience with immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, and high-content automated imaging platforms are desired.
Experience with transgenic rodent models of neurodegenerative disease and their use in preclinical research.
Experience with in vivo techniques including small animal handling and rodent stereotaxic surgery.
