Job Description
PNNL is seeking a post-doctoral chemical engineer to design, construct, and instrument task specific chemical reactors for measuring the kinetics of atmospheric processes. A key focus will be on the utilization of radioactive tracers to identify kinetic pathways. The generated designs will need to follow specifications for handling radioactive material as well as typical considerations for atmospheric chamber designs, including UV irradiation, surface-to-volume ratio and wall losses, chemical-materials compatibility, and materials balance and flow design for identifying and quantifying reaction kinetics. The most successful candidate should be familiar with reactive material transport, chemical kinetics and the design of reactors to measure them, process control instrumentation, process design engineering, photochemical reaction chemistry, and radioactive materials handling and be proficient in implementing these disciplines in an experimental setting. Successful candidates will be expected to publish their developments in peer reviewed literature journals.
On-going programs at PNNL are interested in the above research objectives and we are seeking candidates who will wish to engage in co-developing research proposals in this area to accelerate the research advancements of atmospheric chemistry.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in kinetic reactor design, atmospheric chemistry, and process control instrumentation are required.
Preferred Education: A PhD degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, radiochemistry, or related field (or near completion of such a degree) is required. Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher preferred.
