NCSP Scholars are positioned to drive change in academic health centers, healthcare systems, government agencies, foundations, and think tanks around the world. Growing out of four decades of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars program, and in partnership with the VA Office of Academic Affiliations, the NCSP offers physicians and postdoctoral nurses unique clinical and community-based research training grounded in intensive mentorship. The five training sites of the NCSP are Duke University; University of California, Los Angeles; University of Michigan; University of Pennsylvania; and Yale University. How We Do It The NCSP is a two-year, full-time, site-based fellowship. 100% effort devoted to program activities is a program requirement. Scholars train in residence at one of the five participating sites, where they take classes, conduct research, collaborate with community partners, and receive ongoing mentorship from committed faculty members. Scholars participate in a robust, clinician-tailored core curriculum in organizational change, social change, applied translation research methodology, community engagement, program development and evaluation, team management, communication, leadership, and policy analysis. Who Should Apply MDs (including surgeons in their research years) and RNs with a doctoral degree (PhD or DNP) are eligible to apply. The clinical training for physicians and the doctoral degree for nurses should have been completed within the past 5 years prior to the application process.
