HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow II available immediately to support the Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine (CNRM) at the National Institutes of Health within the National Center for Complimentary and Integrative Health. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the CNRM.
This project will involve techniques ranging from mouse behavioral assays (optogenetics and automated tracking), small animal surgery, immunohistochemistry, neuroanatomical track-tracing, mouse genetics, and functional in vivo imaging (epi-florescent and two photon). Preference will be given to applicants (M.D./Ph.D.) with experience working with small animals, strong background in molecular/anatomical neuroscience, optics and an interest in traumatic brain injury research.
Responsibilities:\t\t\tAssists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development.\t\t\tInvestigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.\t\t\tPerforms specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which will involve procedures such as animal surgeries, transgenic mouse breeding, dissections, sectioning, imaging, immunohistochemistry and behavior.\u00a0\t\t\tCollects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments.\u00a0 Keeps detailed breeding records of mice.\t\t\tPrepares data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals.\t\t\tAssists with training laboratory staff as needed.\t\t\tMaintains cleanliness of laboratory areas.\t\t\tPerforms other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:\u00a0 Knowledge of appropriate scientific area; ability to analyze and interpret data
Minimum Education/Training Requirements:\u00a0 MD or PhD in a related scientific discipline
Minimum Experience:\u00a0 0-4 years of experience.
Physical Capabilities:\u00a0 Long periods of standing and sitting; intricate work with hands; carrying of light and moderately heavy laboratory equipment
Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls:\u00a0 May provide guidance to laboratory staff
Work Environment:\u00a0 Laboratory environment; may involve working with biohazardous materials; may require working evenings and weekends
