Be a part of the legacy: MRL Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program
The Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program aims to be a best-in-industry program for industrial postdoctoral researchers, designed to provide you with an academic focus in a commercial environment. With the resources, reach, and expertise of a large pharmaceutical company, postdoctoral researchers will be positioned to excel in an institution committed to breakthrough innovation in research and discovery.
As a postdoctoral fellow in Microbiome Informatics Research at Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) and the Merck Exploratory Science Center (ESC), you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists at the interface of microbiology, chemical biology, pharmacology, and machine learning. An unprecedented set of microbiome metabolism data will be generated, and used to characterize specific bacterial proteins, strains of bacteria, and bacterial communities. The outcome of the postdoc will be a deeper understanding of the functional role the microbiome plays in diseased and healthy individuals, as well as of the impact of the microbiome on drug and hormone metabolism.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
election of compounds for metabolism study
Execution of limited experimental studies related to the transformation of small molecules by bacterial entities
Statistical and machine learning analyses of metabolism data
Education Minimum Requirement:
PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Computational Biology, Pharmacology, Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field with less than 3 years of Postdoctoral Experience or achieved a Ph.d by Spring/Summer of 2018
Required Experience and Skills:
Demonstrated proficiency in data-mining or statistical modeling methods
Familiarity with wet-lab experimentation (this might include in vitro testing, cell-based assays, bacterial cultivation, sterile techniques)
Experience with interpreting wet-lab data (this might include phenotypic screens, LC-MS data, pharmacology data)
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Familiarity with cheminformatics (QSAR models, metabolism prediction)
Familiarity with bioinformatics
Computational skills (e.g., Pipeline Pilot, Python, Perl, R, Matlab, SQL, etc.)
Track record of innovative research combining methods from multiple disciplines to solve complex problems
Strong history of publication in peer-reviewed journals
