Post doc jobs are quite challenging as to the impact of serving the community. The similarities among the professions of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and conservation are actually in two-folds.

They include most outdoor types of work, and they involve the special relationship of humans to living things and to their environment. Agriculture is no longer simply a way of live, but it is actually a big business. In fact, United States’ consumers alone spend billions for food annually. Rapid developments in technology over the past few decades have enormously increased the level of productivity and have transformed farming from an elementary way of making a living into a science. Agriculture today consists of not only production and cultivation, but also scientific research, the processing of raw materials, and distribution. It is highly complex and interrelated industry.

The situation is changing rapidly and radically for farming. As the agricultural experts and specialist become scarce in number, yet, postdoctoral research jobs are still in existence in the farm. Meanwhile, as the number of farms is steadily decreasing, the individual farms are growing much larger. Modern technology dictates that a farm must be a large operation if it is to be profitable. Spiraling costs of land, equipment, and labor have made it increasingly difficult for a young person who is without a farm background to get started in farming. The retiree or old veteran farmer who is fortunate enough to own a farm must possess the skills of a manager, supervisor, laborer, bookkeeper, and financier. In many instances one must also be a veterinarian and a crop and soil specialist. Above all, one must constantly keep abreast of new changes in technology and research, and be aware of the important role that the government plays in agricultural economics. Today’s farmers need a much higher level of knowledge and skills, like a post doc job, than did their predecessors, but agriculture today means more than the process of training. It means all the fields that make up the support force for production and distribution of food and fiber. The farmer needs an ever-increasing amount of support from the technical and scientific disciplines to maintain a high-level of productivity. There is new technology at all stages, bulk shipments, computerized operations, and new approaches to processing, storing, wholesaling, retailing, and packaging.

Post doc careers in forestry can be found in the forest service, the park service, or the wildlife and outdoor recreation services of the state and government agencies. Special research teams of wildlife specialists are still in service even on their post graduate level, still seek out to describe, and interpret new relationships between wild animals and their environment. With their post doc employment, they also conduct research on how to cultivate, develop, and improve forest or marginal land productivity. Programs to educate such specialists are increasing in number. Likewise, the study and understanding of marine life and its usefulness to humans is the concern of the careerist in the fisheries profession.

Implicit in the fields of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries is the role of the conservationist. Conservation programs must be carried out not only to meet the needs of today, but also to plan the course of action for tomorrow. The increasing burden placed upon our natural resources will be intolerable and ultimately destructive unless the many conservation programs are implemented and expanded. Without these programs, without the specialists in conservation, there may ultimately be neither farm nor forest, neither fish nor fowl. Agricultural scientists’ post-doc job applies their knowledge of biology to agriculture matters such as food, fiber and horticulture and many other titles, like the agronomist, animal scientist, horticulturist, dairy scientist, poultry scientist, poultry scientist, animal breeder, and plant breeder.

With their post doctoral research job, agricultural scientists are expected to be familiar with research techniques and know how to use laboratory equipment and computers. Research in this field may be conducted independently or as part of a group. Likewise, researchers should be self-motivated enough to work effectively alone, yet able to function cooperatively as a team member when that is called for. They also need the ability to communicate their findings both orally and in writing. Personal characteristics generally shared by agricultural scientists are an abiding curiosity about the nature of living things and their environment, systematic work habits in their approach to investigation and experimentation, and the persistence to continue or start over when experiments are not immediately successful. Persons in this field to satisfy who teach in public schools will have to satisfy the state’s requirements for education and experience. Skills in communicating are also of primary importance to those who teach. Advancement in this field depends on education, experience, and quality of job performance. Agricultural scientists with advanced degrees generally start in teaching or research and advance to administrative and management positions, such as supervisor of a research program.

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
